6-16-1- Summary
The exporter obligations are fulfilled after customs clearance, when the goods are placed, along the ship or at the dock.
From that moment, the importer assumes all costs and risks.
The importer designates the ship, pays the freight and negotiates and signs the transport contract.
This Incoterms © resembles Incoterms © FOB and FCA.
They are part of the same group.
The big difference is the ownership transfer takes place when the goods arrive at the dock to be placed on the ship.
6-16-2- From the viewpoint of the importer
The importer chooses the goods carrier (main and post-transport)
Il paie ainsi le transport.
Thus, the importer pays for transport. As indicated on the table, the costs and risks transfer to the importer once the goods are in the possession of the carrier.
The goods must be delivered at the designated location (i.e. FCA "seller's premises").
Each party is responsible for their respective countries’ customs formalities.
6-16-3- Advantages for the importer
Il se charge ici de l'opération de livraison de son pays.
The importer is responsible for delivery operations, excluding packaging, which is advantageous due to the exporter’s familiarity with companies specializing in packaging for export.
Skills and experience in international transactions, or working with an international expert such as a freight forwarder, allows the importer to assume the responsibilities of customs clearance.
In these cases, error-free professionalism is ensured.
6-16-4- From the viewpoint of the exporter
As indicated in the table of costs and risks, the first costs incurred by the exporter are the packaging costs.
The "pre-shipment carriage" and customs costs are also incurred by the exporter.
