6-15-1- Summary

The exporter's only responsibility is to place the goods at the disposal of the importer. The version of the Incoterms 2000 recognized this practice is widely used. The importer incurs all risks and costs inherent in goods management (as marked in red).

Importers and exporters can agree on a transfer of risks and costs, and the loading at the first transport point. This choice must be explicit, the contract should clearly stipulate the Incoterms.

6-15-2- From the viewpoint of the impoter

The importer is responsible for all transaction costs and risks. This is an "ex-work" transaction, "from the factory gate."

The advantage for the importer resides in maintaining full control of the import of its goods, and, consequently, controlling costs.

6-15-4- From the viewpoint of the exporter

The exporter deals with packaging, while the rest of the operation is carried out by the importer. The exporter assists the importer step-by-step to ensure a successful operation.

6-15-5- Advantages for the exporter

As seen on the costs table, the exporter is only responsible for packaging. The exporter could incur loading responsibilities with use of the EXW-loaded variation.

6-15-6- The point of ownership transfer: the home office of the exporter.


Packaging must adapt to the mode of transport and to the destination country. As with all Incoterms, the importer should provide step-by-step guidance to the exporter pertaining to the destination country.
